Frankie & Benny’s Veganuary Review

So it seems like everywhere is launching a Veganuary menu this year & I could not be more thrilled about it!! Eating out as a vegan has never been easier! I was recently invited to try the new Frankie & Benny’s menu by the couple behind @Vegan_food_uk

Food: Italian, American style restaurant catering all-day

Price: Meals are between £10-17, they do a lunch & evening set menu. Desserts are about £6

Perfect for: All-day dining, fuss free hearty style meals.

F&B’s have a whole separate menu for vegans which means there should be no confusion over that when ordering. Some new dishes include…

New Starters: Mushroom Ravioli, Vegan Loaded Skins

New Mains: Vegan Hot Dog; Calzone Vegano; Rigatoni Ragu

New Desserts: Apple Crumble; Chocolate & Raspberry Lava Cake

It’s been many years since I visitied F&B’s so everything was new to me. Firstly I opted for the Mushroom Ravioli (£5.99) & Dough Balls. (£4.89) The ravioli is deep fried leaving it crispy on the outside with a soft mushroom, spinach & cheese centre. It also comes with a spicy arrabbiata dipping sauce. My mum (who is as far from vegan as you can) get absolutely LOVED these ravioli, which is high praise indeed.

The dough balls were…a disaster to say the least. They were rock hard we couldn’t even eat them at all…clearly something went wrong in the kitchen there. The garlic dip just tasted of Flora if I’m honest. Not a dish I’d order again.

For mains, I chose the Mushroom Bianca with added soy protein chunks. It was a delicious garlicky, creamy sauce that wasn’t too rich or heavy I found. Plenty of soy chunks but I defo could’ve gone for more mushrooms. (£9.99 + £1.50 for the chunks).

And the star of the show was of course dessert…I had the Chocomisu (£5.99), a vegan tiramisu that combines sponge with chocolate & coffee cream drenched in a chocolate sauce. This is incredibly rich & chocolately whilst also being light & fluffy. I would suggest sharing if you’re very full but I managed it all hehe.

Overall, I would certainly recommend the new Veganuary menu from F&B’s, there’s a wide variety, incredible dessert options & a good place to go whatever time of day & whoever you’re with (vegans, non-vegans etc). The service had a lot to answer for but we will just leave that there…

Peace & Plants,
